L’Oréal Paris is a proud partner of the world’s most prestigious film festival. As official makeup partner to the Festival de Cannes since 1997, we support the world of cinema, bringing what’s new in beauty to the most international gathering in the film industry.

For 10 days every May: 1700 makeup designs

From the opening to the closing ceremony, and every day in between, L’Oréal Paris makeup artists create the beauty looks of festival jury members, as well as our ambassadors. Led by L’Oréal Paris creative genius Val Garland, a team of 30-plus international makeup artists design some 1700 makeup looks for the festival’s duration: making up 200 guests and jury members morning and night.

Celebrating the women behind the camera

The under-representation of women in film is a major issue within the creative industry, with only 10.7% female film directors in Hollywood as of 2019*. Moreover, only 21.3% of short films are directed by women; and only 7 women have ever been nominated for Best Director at the Academy Awards*. In light of these figures, the need to reduce bias and achieve greater gender balance is both striking and urgent.

In 2021, L'Oréal Paris launched the inaugural Lights On Women Award which honors one rising female filmmaker in partnership with the Short Films competition of the Festival de Cannes. Each year, one winner will be hand-picked from a selection of the Festival de Cannes' Short Films competition and from international film schools' short film programs to receive financial support of up to 30,000€, a platform for increased visibility and access to a "sisterhood" of cinematic talent.

A festival for all

Hosting events with no accreditation needed, an open cinema, a talk-show or inviting actress icons to walk the red carpet with women activists who inspire them, L’Oréal Paris creates interactive experiences for all to enjoy.
